![]() Just do what most courses do and offer a few large thermos with cold water at a couple of tee boxes on each nine. Instead, bottles of water are kept in coolers and available for 50 cents - although you can “unlock” the coolers and just take a bottle, if you’re so inclined (I was not and put $1 in the money slot for 2 bottles) - so the entire set up seems odd. Another oddity is that there’s no free water on the course. I don’t need an Augusta National practice facility, but would it really involve that much added maintenance if a few areas of the range were mowed shorter and a few flags were placed on these areas, especially since range balls are no longer free. Also, the range is devoid of ANY targets. A nice touch for a public course that’s been replaced with a range ball machine. When I played this course regularly, range balls were complementary and stack in the classic pyramid style. One disappointing change was that the greens fees no longer included range balls. ![]() Many ball marks, but that’s public golf and bent greens in the summer. From a course condition perspective, it remains above average. Its like 2 different courses with a open front and hilly back. I regularly played this course when I lived in Maryland and try to do so on trips to the area. Just before that course there is a good driving range. If you want to hit some warm up balls.I'd recommend heading up the road toward Tanglewood (another very good and under rated course). It's a long tee shot to reach the fairway.and requires very careful shot management inorder to avoid water that snakes in and around the remaining shots approaching the green. The finishing hole is really tough.I've scored par on it only once (I'm a 14 hdcp). Bring your "slope game" as there are frequent uneven lies. Its a cliche, but your likely to use every club in your bag s not all grip it and rip it. The flow of the holes from "easy" opening hole, through short par 3s, to long par 5s (9 is a bear) is an ideal mix, often with hard holes followed by easier holes. The starters on the other hand have always been really helpful. The pro shop guys aren't the warmest and welcoming sort that you would find.but certainly not rude. One of the stalwart courses in Lancaster County, Pilgrim’s Oak is a true treat to play.If this course was located in closer proximity to major population areas it would be more well known, crowded, and costly.so, if you don't mind driving for an hour 's well worth the trip. You won’t find any ridiculously dramatic doglegs or tricked out holes here, as most of the 18 play fairly straight off of the tee but what you will find will challenge every club in your bag.
